network manager was unhappy during upgrade because of a corrupted hal
coming back up; this caused crashes and infinite looping for our
intrepid network-manager.
We fixed this in the update-manager in jaunty-updates by not starting
hal until the whole upgrade has finished.
Also, NetworkManager in jaunty is fixed and now better deals with bad
hal state, so the upgrade to karmic should be smoother.
