Back to the proposed repo.
Could you, using synaptic, download and install the proposed 2.6.28-12.43 Image
file. It will
give you all the files you need to boot to the new kernel. It appears you
already
know how to alter menu.lst.
So, if you can pls download and install 2.6.28-12.43 image and then boot it
and run it a few days to see if your problem goes away
