It's a bit ironic, but on the same day that you reported this bug, someone else reported not being able to _remove_ the menu entry on 64 bit Jaunty. Bug 353785.
I assume you have blender_2.48a+dfsg-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb (`apt-cache policy blender` will tell you). I'm not sure exactly how the menu entries work, but can you check that you have the following files from that package on your computer? -rw-r--r-- root/root 791 2009-03-09 20:56 ./usr/share/applications/blender-fullscreen.desktop -rw-r--r-- root/root 780 2009-03-09 20:56 ./usr/share/applications/blender-windowed.desktop -rw-r--r-- root/root 5147 2009-03-09 20:56 ./usr/share/pixmaps/blender.xpm -rw-r--r-- root/root 746 2008-10-22 17:35 ./usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/blender.png -rw-r--r-- root/root 1219 2008-10-22 17:35 ./usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/blender.png -rw-r--r-- root/root 1929 2008-10-22 17:35 ./usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/blender.png Are the readable and uncorrupted?
