I am having the same problem, but I think it is not a pidgin issue. I had the same problem when I tried using Gajim. Can someone confirm if the problem is just because of problems in network connectivity or a bug? I am running Pidgin 2.5.2 on Ubuntu Intrepid. Please let me know if you need other details.
