Thanks for taking the time to report these problems and help make Ubuntu better. However it seems that this bug seems to describe 2 or 3 different problems you are having. For purposes of this bug, I'm looking at the the original report and assigning it against network- manager-applet. The original basis for the bug report seemed to be a wishlist item that the network-manager-applet would include an additional tab for aDSL.
If the other things mentioned here are still causing problems for you, please open those as separate bug reports so that they can be handled separately.
