It is good that running 2.7.1 without UXA seems to be a useful workaround. The bug is still there in the UXA code and since that is what is going to be used for future releases, it would be nice if we could get to the bottom of this. It would be great if you could check if the bug is present in Karmic. You may use the alpha-2 LiveCD for if you want, which is available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ . I realize that since this bug take some time to manifest itself, it may a bit much to ask that you use Karmic for your daily work, but maybe you could leave it on overnight to check if the monitor goes black (and hope that it is not only some kind of activity that triggers it). You know your own constraints best, but it would be nice if we could make sure this does not happen in the release of Karmic.
