The problem is simply related to the fact that unison is not backword compatible both on server and client side. So if the client has a different version of unison than in the server, the error shows up. In the specific case, If my jaunty-client runs on the version of unison for jaunty, it will not connect to a hardy-server with /in a previous version.previous version of unison. The only way to fix this is to upgrade unison in hardy to the same version of the client.
