I think this should just have a name change. A simple File -> Export Package List would be better than Save Markings. Since this is exactly the wording of the various requests I've seen towards this. I know this is an old bug report, but just thought I'd add my two cents.
Actually maybe it'd make a little more sense to put it under "Package" heading instead of file. By the way, I'm currently using Feisty Fawn with the version of Synaptic being 0.57.12. Very nice that you have an option to generate a script to download the selected packages on a different Install. Not sure if it supports this, but it'd be nice to also add to this script a feature where it adds the third party repositories that some of the software possibly comes in for Synaptic to be able to install ALL of the packages in the package list.
