changed status to new to bring attention to the bug and the fact that I
have found the root cause. the blank error box pops up when one attempts
to install (i.e. download) a new driver and is unable to contact the
server for some reason. i encountered the problem because my internet
connection was down when i attempted to download a new nvidia driver.
