I've suddenly started having a problem that may be related to the above.

If I create a LaTeX doc---A4 landscape---compile and display, evince
(and other viewers), display it in what looks like 'letter' format
though all the defaults that I know of are set for A4. However, when I
opt to print and choose 'print preview' the display appears to offer A4
format, but the text is now offset right and upward. I can only get a
correctly formatted output by manually adjusting the margin settings in
the original document.

I have started using: \usepackage[dvips]{geometry} which has helped in
that evince now displays in something approaching A4---probably 'letter'
(as stated above)---whereas initially the display in evince was almost
square!

This fault/bug has only appeared in the last week (to my knowledge), and
it's very frustrating as I have a lot of .tex documents formatted for
landscape printing.
