Thanks for the detective work! I'm reassigning this to pm-utils. Have
you tried this in Karmic yet? There has been some significant changes to
power management since Jaunty, and it would be best to do all further
debugging in the Karmic development environment
(http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/).
