Don't fret, it is not really that complicated. Take a look at

As a first step, I recompiled the current Karmic version with the patch
applied. If you can, please confirm the bug is still present in plain
karmic and is fixed with the version from my PPA.
Once the patch is in Karmic we can backport it to the stable releases.
