Greetings, Indeed, I too removed the Sony drive. Installed a generic cd/dvd burner (opticia?) then did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 and now I'm able to mount cd/dvd's. Thank for sharing!
Sony cd/ dvd drives & Linux,.. it's a no go relationship apparently.
