I had the same problem on my Dell Vostro 1510 with Ubuntu 9.04 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic since yesterday (new to Ubuntu and Linux in general). My first cold reboot was when I trying to show a friend that it "really just works", and sure enough that's when the keyboard and trackpad go dead.
