I think that it is completely pointless to add comments stating that the fix works. Instead, what would be useful is that several people install Karmic on their Vostro and check if the bug still happens in Karmic (without adding anything to the menu.lst). This bug is meant to be fixed in 2.6.30 but noone confirmed upstream yet.
