sudo /etc/init.d/eucalyptus-cloud stop
stops it.

cloud-controller is not /etc/init.d/eucalyptus-cc ? Stopping -cc has no
effect.

understood. For an evaluation on one's laptop, during train rides, the "always 
on" makes a
real difference, obviously.
