Elaborating on why your system is so slow did not solve the basic reason
I set the bug to incomplete, which was how do the other Gnome apps cause
the cursor to change? OOo already puts up a splash screen as soon as it
begins to start, to do anything before that would require nautilus or
whatever else launches it to do it.
