I've found an upstream bug that covers the handling of removable sources for libraries, and the associated 'Missing files'. I too found it quite alarming when I first saw my library 'disappear' the first time I opened Rhythmbox without the library sourced mounted, so I think this could be handled better. It would be better if it could determine that the library source was not mounted etc and issue a warning so the media can be mounted by the user.
