Installed Grub2. Skipped the chain-loading thing... and apparently avoided any bugs in the install process (if there are any of those left). That went without a hitch, but it does not fix the problem on my machine. What happens now...
1) Cold restart... after the initial Toshiba screen, Toshiba's bios-based boot options disappear... some subtle screen anomalies appear (in the word "Toshiba") as it sits for about ten seconds. (I believe this is because I changed the wait-to-boot-default value to 10sec... I should probably note that menuhide is also disabled in my menu.lst file) 2) Default Ubuntu loads I believe Grub2 is loading but is not appearing on the screen, so that's a video issue of some kind there. Interestingly, I can also reproduce this: 1) Cold restart... sits for 10 seconds 2) During the 10 seconds power off 3) Power back on, Grub2 loads -- grub menu does not display after cold boot on Toshiba laptops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
