This problem is not fixed. Trying DVD with d-i installer from Aug 29 on a machine with 4gigs of memory, it did not install the PAE kernel.
If you are using /proc/meminfo , remember that only displays the amount of memory the kernel can see. So any tool dependent on that data will fail. You can try "dmidecode" and under the ""Memory Array Mapped Address" section in value "Range Size" . You can easily find the amount of memory on the machine.
