Yes it affects any storage device attached via USB. It's worst on
Desktops and laptops with usb storage devices integrated.
We are working to figure out a better solution for this patch made to gvfs here:

While it allows your ipod & kindle to display that they are safe to
remove. It ends up causing massive regression on usb storage devices.
