@Bernd, I understand we aren't promoting gpsd for xgps or xgpsspeed; would it make sense to split gpsd in two modules upstream or in Debian+Ubuntu: one providing the daemon, bindings and development files, and the other containing the UI stuff? This might be a way to offer more toolkits backends in the future: gtk+ and qt are probably ok if they are optional I guess?
