Actually the problem is that texmaker is unable to deal with some character encodings, being the "WINDOWS-1252" the one that gives me an error in this case.
After converting the file to utf-8, with: iconv -f WINDOWS-1252 -t utf-8 file.tex the accents are correctly displayed and saved.
