No, it's not a backport request. I think it's a regression report.
The issue is that in the new version of Inkscape (0.47~pre1-0ubuntu2)
each time you copy/paste a gradient-filled object, a new XML entity is
created to describe the fill. There's no need for this duplication of
data, as the same gradient fill could be reused by each copied object.
