*"Which distribution do you have installed? Jaunty? Karmic? Ubuntu?"*
Kubuntu?One machine:
Kubuntu/Jaunty

*"...any of the programs kdesu, kdesudo, gnomesu, or gksu installed on
your system? Is any other program for this purpose (opening a
login/password dialog and running a program as the user who logged in or
as root) installed on your system (which program)?"
*
no kdesu as I could see from System Activity
no kdesudo as I could see from System Activity
no multiple sign-on and I've installed using all relevant tools as of fresh
install or Synaptic, and assume my status is admin and
setting up the things as root as needed. I'm sure that doesn't answer your
question, but I am not yet well versed in KDE or Linux systems navigation.
This is a unmodified install of Kubuntu to an old Athlon 2600/32bit machine
and 2.5 gigs of ram.

*"Did you start hp-plugin as a privileged user (first user set up during
installation, must be in adm and lpadmin groups)?"*

I do recall that the install process found the printer.

*"Can you make sure that your system is completely up to date?"*

outside of the following the usual update via the update manager and for
good measure "marking all updates" in Synaptics this would be a YES to my
knowledge.

I would like to say that it was working for a short time and then stopped
and on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 and plugged my printer to it and it
worked for a few printouts and also now give the "completed" but nothing
happens. Oh, and yes the printer is working, since I have an windows XP
installation and it prints fine/normal.
