Given that you have a customized /etc/pam.d/common-auth, this upgrade
would not have removed any references to LDAP from /etc/pam.d/.

Your permissions on both /sbin/unix_chkpwd and /etc/shadow are correct
(they match the Ubuntu defaults, which work with gnome-screensaver).
That's the usual cause of this error. But if you were relying on
unix_chkpwd to be able to access the LDAP directory using root
privileges, that would be another possible explanation. Had you changed
/sbin/unix_chkpwd at some point in the past to be setuid root?

Today I have upgraded the PAM from 1.0.1-9ubuntu1 to 1.0.1-9ubuntu1.1 on
Jaunty. After the upgrade, I cannot seem to unlock the screen after
gnome-screensaver locks it. I am still able to login in gdm, or in the virtual
console.
