found this while googling my error message: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tsclient/+bug/399436. Turns out a fix is released for my issue, which may be different than the one described in this report.
Also tried running the command in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- panel/+bug/38240/comments/1 but the command is invalid for my system.
