Does the drive actually work? Can you please attach /var/log/kern.log?
Please do
ps aux|grep devkit-disks
in a terminal. You probably see a line like
root 1874 0.0 0.0 42176 596 ? S 08:13 0:15
devkit-disks-daemon: polling /dev/sr0
Does the drive light go out when you then do
sudo kill 1874
(Instead of 1874, use the number in the second row on the line with
"Polling /dev/sr0").
