I followed your instructions, well, just the last part, because I already had a playlist created.
So, I started rhythmbox and when to import file -> and selected the previous saved playlist... now I have 4 different titles on the left that say "Play Queue (22)" You can look at the additional screenshot. I really don't know how I can tell you to reproduce the problem. It was the first time that I have used rythmbox. I noticed that it had located my DNS-323, I guess that's because I have the itunes server feature turned on, on the DNS-323. Scroll through my list of songs, added the ones I wanted to the "Play Queue". Then saved the play list to my local hard drive. Then started playing the songs, when the playlist finished playing, I went to the machine to restart the playlist, and all the songs had disappeared. So, I decided to reload my playlist...and nothing appeared. How this helps...
