Could you explain a bit more, kdm installs to /usr/bin/kdm whether or not you
have kde installed (as opposed to gdm that installs in /usr/sbin/).
For kdm to start, it needs to be set as the default display manager
("/usr/bin/kdm" in /etc/X11/default-display-manager)
