Shang, On posts 10-14 I put the old HD back in and did the same apport commands as previous. The old HD has the kernel 2.6.28-14.47. I booted to this from the grub menu. Just as I had been able to with the second HD.
As with the Second HD (the one I just took out and put the original back in) the boot stalled with kernel 2.6.28-15 generic, but was successful with kernel 2.6.28-14 generic.
