You are correct that Jaunty is still supported, but what that means is things like security patches, critical bug fixes, and additional translations will be supported for 18 months. More information about this is described on http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatIsubuntu/releases. Fixes for any bug, no matter how simple, run the risk of causing further regressions that could potentially have a greater impact than the bug what we were trying to fix in the first place.
