Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic beta
Kernel 2.6.31.12
Package involved
Kernel 2.6.31-12
Problem : Problem installing the graphic driver with present kernel
version
Here is my problem. I installed Kubuntu 9.10 Beta a few days ago and i
noticed this message while booting.
... unable to grab IRQ 0 disabling device fsck from linux-utils ...
after this message, Kubuntu boots normaly without the normal splash
screen(kubuntu and the progress line under it).
And when i try to install the ATI Catalyst driver i got 2 errors during
the installation process. Here is the full output of the installation
process of the driver :
r...@kubuntu:~/Downloads# ./ati-driver-installer-9-9-x86.x86_64.run

Note that i started a xorg bug report but i think this one is different
from the xorg bug i had a while ago that is why i'm starting this
report. Just for information, on Karmic Alpha 4 and 5 the same driver
installed with no problem and was working perfectly and the only bug i
had was after i updated the kernel 2.6.31-9 to 2.6.31-10 on Alpha 5.
Then when i installed Karmic Beta, i've noticed the IRQ message at boot
and the same message appears for both kernel 2.6.31-11 and 2.6.31-12 and
in both cases, i had the same error messages while installing the ATI
Catalyst driver. I don't know if it's the kernel's fault or just an
incompatibility between the ATI Catalyst driver and the kernel 2.6.31-12
but the reason why i'm posting is because it might be related since i
had no problem with this driver before the kernel 2.6.31-11.
If you need the output of other files tell me and i will post them.
Tx for your time.
P.S. : The fglrx driver from the restricted "Hardware Drivers" also
didn't work. As for the default drivers (not fglrx) they can only
support a few desktop effects but only in xrender not in OpenGL.
