I also had a lot of trouble with flash under Ubuntu amd64. I used the flashplugin-nonfree packages etc.
Now participating 9.10 beta tests I decided to give adobes 64bit beta version a try - it runs like a champ. No interferences with sound, no crashes anymore, it simply does its job. Try go for Its a pre-release already: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html and put the so file in the proper directory.
