Both ways, I tried upgraded and fresh install. I am going to be installing Karmic RC on the Toshiba as soon as it comes out, I'm running Karmic on my Studio 1737, volume starts at about 30% on the bar, takes me about three pushes of the "up volume" to get anything (and it's faint), then the volume goes up as it should. The Toshiba running Intrepid doesn't start until about 40-50% on the bar which makes the escalation of volume much faster from 50-100% on the bar, basically either either "pretty quiet" or "pretty loud", not slow increments.
I'll post as soon as I get Karmic installed on the Toshiba to see if the issue is any better.
