It would be completely wrong to "make users understand that what they
are using is not Google", because what they are using *is* Google.
That's why it's served from www.google.com.
Anyway, Ivanka Majic has redesigned the results page to re-add the
missing features, and I understand that Matt Nuzum is now implementing
it.
