yes this is tricky. in the end you need to teach NM to follow links for resolv.conf properly. what currently happens is that if you install resolvconf while NM is running, network-manager will just trash the just created resolvconf link for /etc/resolv.conf because it doesnt go to realpath first. only if you install resolvconf while netwokrmanager is stopped it will work properly.
