Looking on the forums, it seems like the problem is caused by the soundcard turning on and off to save power. A workaround to disable this is to change the last line of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf which says > options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N to > options snd-hda-intel power_save=0
