I have this problem as well using both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04, though
with slightly different results in Kubuntu:
In Ubuntu, gdm loads, and the desktop background appears, though the
panels never load. I am able to switch to v-terminals and run commands
as long as I do NOT have to use sudo. Using sudo immediately locks the
entire system.
In Kubuntu the system freezes before kdm loads, and the system will not
respond to any input from mouse or keyboard.
Manually running "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" DOES load the module and
provide full functionality from the card, however, adding ndiswrapper to
/etc/modules causes the above problem.

Have tried both the WinXP and Win2K drivers (mrv8k51.inf) with identical
results.
** Changed in: ndiswrapper (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Confirmed
