I reported [Bug 460059] Re: .wmv files not playing , which was identified as a duplicate of this, and my symptoms were reproducible. It occurred whenever I opened any of my .wmv files in totem. They had been created in Windows Vista splitting a video from a jvc camcorder into .wmv files.
