Now I have done the following directly after boot (SSHed from other
machine):

export DISPLAY=:0
sudo killall gnome-settings-daemon
sudo gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon --debug 2>&1 | tee g-s-d.log

Then I have closed the lid and I got in g-s-c.log:

require manual layout management - but it is provided by the application===

This stopped then and I opened the lid. Then nothing happened for some
seconds and then the screen got black periodically giving output like
above but with

and withe the "rate:" value for the LVDS1 output being sometimes 60 and
sometinimes 85. The resolution does not change.
