I didn't say to remove the pixmap... To boot without splash in the command-line, press Escape when booting and you see the "Press [ESC] for grub menu" option.
The first option is the default, press "e" to edit that -- you'll see a new screen with a series of lines; the second one of which is the kernel filename and command-line. Press the down arrow to highlight this, and press "e" again to edit the command-line. The last two words are "quiet splash", press backspace until "splash" has been deleted.
