You're right. doing a "sudo update-grub" indicated that 2.6.31-14 was
found but when rebooting GRUB doesn't list it. I'm more than a bit
concerned about editing grub/menu.lst directly because the "kernel" line
has a long argument for root that I have no clue how to reproduce for
the new kernel.
As I indicated in my bug report this box began with 8.x then updated to
9.04 and now 9.10. 9.10 broke the audio stream with PulseAudio, which
you indicate is due to an old kernel. Updates did in fact download a
newer kernel, 2.6.31-14, but didn't install it in GRUB.
Any help will be appreciated.
Is there a failure in update-kernel?
