Robert, are you saying that waiting about ten seconds is enough to make this error not happen, under about any circumstances?
The reason why this happens is that firefox does a bunch of clean-up work after the firefox window closes, so technically, firefox is still running while you try to start it up again so quickly. Waiting allows the clean-up work to finish and for firefox to completely finish. I admit that it is annoying and the error message should probably mention this, but I don't think it is a bug. -- After quiting firefox 3.5 I decided to start it up again and I got an error firefox is running please quit the running application before starting firefox. No sign of the application inthe task bar or anywhere on my desktop.
