I also have an HP Pavillon ZE2000. In Jaunty resume from suspend worked more or less mostly. Sometimes the screen stayed black after resume. In Hardy or Intrepid it worked fine with the depecated acpi-support-method. I could solve the problem adding acpi_sleep=s3_bios vga=0 as kernel options. Now it works fine.
