Correction and apology. It turns out the jack output is working, it's just that the internal speakers never shut off. I thought the external speakers were not working because they were turned down low relative to the internal speakers.
This means I don't have the unique issue I thought I did, and this is probably a duplicate bug report. -- Can't get sound through headphone jack on nx6110 in fresh 9.10 install.
