I am having a similar error. I also have the WPN311 card, Atheros AR5001X+
chipset:

It then detects it as Atheros AR2414 in dmesg:

[ 17.235247] ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration timeout (2412MHz)

This isn't so much of the problem. What I am concerned with is the constant
repetition of:
'ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration timeout (2412MHz)'
in the console. I'm wondering if the misdetect on the chipet has anything to
do with this.

According to http://madwifi-project.org/wiki/Chipsets
2414 -- part of the 5th Generation AR5005GS
and
5212 -- part of the AR5001X and AR5002 chipsets.
If I can force it to load 5212 instead of 2414, maybe it can clear the errors?
Does anyone know how I can force a chipset load?
