Ok; there's no evidence in the apt log that grub1 was pulled in as a
dependency of another package, so even if you don't remember doing this,
it was the result of a user-initiated action rather than a bug in the
package.

Please note that the installation of the wrong grub version happened
back on Nov 11, but it wasn't until a kernel update was installed that
it became apparent that there was a problem here.

To fix this issue, you should install the 'grub-pc' package via
System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager, or by running 'sudo
apt-get install grub-pc' from a terminal.
