Mark, I am glad that you managed to get your system into a usable state.
One of the things I will be working on as a bug tester is to make sure
that the upgrade-manager is much more robust to failures. Leaving a
system in a nearly useless state is unacceptable.
I would like to point out that given the issues and the messy nature of
the fixes, it would probably be best to do a clean install of Lucid when
it comes time to upgrade to that. At least, that is my recommendation
in order to avoid future headaches.
So, since we can no longer diagnose the issue, I will be setting this
report as "Invalid".
