Thanks for your bug report.
I noticed in the crash log:
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/root/.byobu/status'
It's trying to open /root/.byobu/status for writing. Are you running
byobu as root, or perhaps via sudo?
Also, can you reproduce this error reliably, by removing your ~/.byobu
directory and taking the same action? If so, please provide detailed
instructions on how to reproduce it, and I'm sure it's something I can
fix for you.
